Yes they should let Astrid out into the field once in a while would be nice.she is smart and is a great sidekick.
I loved the effect in this show. The shadow effect and the death effect was great.People dissolved to ash.
    Was like a creepy b-movie. #fringe

I will never understand the love for Astrid that I continually see in discussions around this show (on io9 at least). What am I missing about her that makes her so interesting? #fringe

@aubreyf: I've always been fond of good sidekicks/buddies. Astrid is smart, competent and an island of normalcy in Walter's lab. With Charlie gone (another great buddy character BTW) she's the only one there that's firmly grounded and not lugging a lot of personal baggage.

That's my two cents anyway. #fringe

@Bigdamnhero: I think they're saving her for later. We see her a lot, every episode, but know nothing at all about her. I think she's being saved as a reveal. Some sort of double agent, or some nasty shit'll happen to her, or she'll save everyones ass big style with hitherto unseen ability or powers... something like that. #fringe

We for sure need more looks at Russian Fringe science -- you know they'd have gotten into it even more than we did. Who is the Rooski Walter? Or was it a cadre of relatively normal folks, under tighter supervision than Walter and Bell? #fringe

this was a a good episode. I especially liked the Russian involvement. And I really liked the ash effects. But I'm ready to take on more of the arc and less of these standalone eps. I am still curious about Olivia's mind powers from Cortexiphan. And where William Bell fits into all this. Alas, knowing J.J. Abrams, these questions are answered slowly and far between eps in any given season, only raising more questions along the way. #fringe

@acrobatic rabbit: Yeah... what I liked so much about the first season is how the stand-alone eps all pointed to The Pattern in some way, so you didn't get the feeling you were leaving the main story arc.

Now, the stand-alones feel like filler. I mean, it's good filler, but still. If I want filler, I'll eat a bran muffin. #fringe

    RE: Scream Queens
While I'm aware that some men will be compelled to emit a high-pitched scream at something like this, I doubt most would. Personally, I'd probably jump back shouting "holy shit", if anything.
Although the same could probably be said about quite a few women, in that they will not emit a high-pitched wail in such a moment of surprise. #fringe

Overall I'd say the ep was solid, if not action packed. I do hope that we see some more CIA shenanigans in the future. Broyles' meeting with that mysterious guy at the end seemed a bit too ominous to be a throwaway event.

On another note, I was quite impressed with the crumbly ash effects, even if the way they did Mr. Shadowman was a bit meh. #fringe

Do the Quatermass serials really count as "B" movies? #fringe

@capnrob: Depends. You could argue that the first two serials, along with the 2005 version of the first series, had a b-movie feel to them (especially the second series with John Robinson). The first two movies with Brian Donlevy? Definitely yes. Either version of 'Quatermass and the Pit'? No, both the tv serial and the Hammer film are genius (and the tv series is better than the film). Finally 'Quatermass' or 'The Quatermass Conclusion'? Possibly - although in all honesty it has been a while since I watched it - since, even though it has the same basic storyline as 'Torchwood: CoE', I seem to recall thinking the last series 'missed the mark' or felt dated somehow.

[wow. that was a long - and long winded - opinionated answer to a short question. sorry.] #fringe

@blackoak: Heh; when it comes to long-winded, you ain't got nuttin' on me.

Personally, I always think of the British film industry as a whole as distinct from the A/B Hollywood paradigm. Quatermass - particularly The Quatermass Experiment (original serial, not the film version), which is what I was thinking of, although I could understand if people didn't agree that there's a TQE feel to this episode - just wasn't made under that system. The BBC is, well, the BBC, and Quatermass was ... well, I could be wrong, but I always thought that, at least the original one was a *prestige* presentation, not a cheapie made to fill out the back half of a double feature. #fringe

The episode itself was almost the most X-Files of all, and as much as I loved it anyhow, felt vaguely watered-down somehow. The last line of the episode was pretty awesome, however. That I didn't expect.

I'm still waiting to the episode with the clip from the NIN trailer with Peter whipping around to keep from getting shot in the head. Next week looks like a decent bet. #fringe

@Lassus: So...I watched the first handful of episodes of this show and wasn't blown away by it or anything. Is it too X-Filey or just enough these days? And is it early X-Files creature of the week stuff, or later on 'giant hard-to-follow over-arching plot' nonsense? I require enlightenment here. #fringe

@Lassus: Agree about the X-files thing. Fringe at least tried to differentiate itself from X-files last season... but this season, I'm seeing more parallels. I was happy with the ep, but I almost wish they hadn't decided to bring aliens into the Fringe 'Verse. With this ep, and "Night of Desirable Objects", now it's becoming a bit too derivative. #fringe

@Bigdamnhero: I'm not a huge fan of the episodes either, but I can see why they're doing them. After Lost, J.J is probably trying to make a more accessible show. So dedicated watchers get story arc episodes, and they toss out these monster of the week episodes to try and entice new people to watch the show.

It's possible that we'll see less of them as time goes on, or this'll become Fringe-standard: if you only care about the story, watch every other week. If you don't care about the story, same deal, different weeks. #fringe
